Wonderful BINO clock and barometer two brass portholes overlook the wooden base, the clock is quartz and the precision barometer has a mechanical function both in perfect working order ⚙️ Mechanical mechanism 🔍 Conservative state as per photo 📖 An age of ink and genius: Mechanical barometers, also known as aneroid barometers, are instruments used to measure atmospheric pressure without the use of liquids. Invented in 1843 by Frenchman Lucien Vidi, these devices offer a practical and portable alternative to mercury barometers. The heart of a mechanical barometer is a sealed metal capsule, called an aneroid capsule, inside which a partial vacuum has been created. Changes in external atmospheric pressure cause the capsule to deform: when the pressure increases, it compresses; when it decreases, it expands. These movements are amplified by a system of levers and gears that move a needle on a graduated dial, thus indicating the atmospheric pressure. Unlike mercury barometers, mechanical barometers do not contain toxic substances, making them safer and easier to handle. • Portability: thanks to their compact structure, they are ideal for use in domestic, nautical and hiking environments. • Ease of reading: the analog dial allows an immediate reading of the atmospheric pressure. • Long-lasting: the robust construction and the absence of electronic components make them long-lasting and reliable instruments. |
