€530,00

VINTAGE OTTOMAN FOUNTAIN PEN WITH IMPERIAL TUGHRA Handcrafted fountain pen made by goldsmiths during the Ottoman Empire, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The object is striking for its finely chiseled gilded metal body with floral bas-relief and for the precious tughra (imperial calligraphic signature), attributable to Sultan Abdulhamid II (1842-1918) . He is remembered as the last great absolute sultan before the advent of the modern Ottoman Parliament. Under his reign, an elaborate artistic and symbolic language spread, which also included the use of imperial monograms (tughra), complex calligraphy and floral symbols with political and spiritual significance.

His rule began from August 31, 1876, to April 27, 1909, with his deposition by the Young Turks.

The pen is a masterpiece of goldsmithing, an elegant and historically significant work, designed to be carried by officials, calligraphers, or dignitaries. The eyedropper filling system allows the entire body of the pen to be filled with liquid ink via a dropper, which is included.

The heart-shaped nib and oriental writing testify to the refinement of Ottoman calligraphy, while the ring at the base suggests daily use by official scribes. A pen that is not just a writing instrument, but an authentic relic of a refined civilization.

πŸ“– An age of ink and genius: In the final glories of the Ottoman Empire, writing was sacred. Pens like this accompanied calligraphers through the halls of YΔ±ldΔ±z Palace, the gardens of TopkapΔ±, or the madrasas of Istanbul. The engraved tughra symbolized sovereign power, while each stroke on the sheet of paper sanctioned decrees, poems, and passed down knowledge. This fountain pen, perfectly preserved and still in working order, is a true witness to that world of velvet, ink, and gold.

Sultan Abdulhamid II (1842–1918) was the 34th ruler of the Ottoman Empire, reigning from 1876 to 1909. A central figure of the late empire, he is known for his authoritarian style of government but also for his modernization of the state and profound cultural and infrastructural transformations. He promoted major infrastructure projects, including the famous Hijaz Railway, and supported science and education.
