Vintage Metal Engraved India Colonial Patterns Floral First ‘900

€81,92
Refined rectangular powder compact made of burnished metal hand engraved, with Indo-Persian floral decorations of great charm. The lid is embellished with a finely chiseled scene depicting a crane among lotus flowers and stylized vegetation, enclosed in an ornamental sunburst frame. Inside, the bottom and back of the lid feature floral motifs concentrated within solar circles, typical of the Indo-Persian decoration of the time.

The structure is entirely metallic, with a rear hinge made by bending the sheet metal into a tube, a construction solution typical of colonial artisanal artefacts. The external surface has an original dark patina, with light oxidation and signs of aging consistent with age, which enhance its historical character and materiality.

These caskets were often used as compacts or toilet boxes during the British colonial period in India.
